Amongst the dozens of industry-leading innovations that can be found in the upcoming BMW i3, one of the most interesting has to be the use of carbon fiber. These days, there are plenty of luxury models on the market that use carbon fiber to make components like spoilers and body panels. But to extend the range and improve the efficiency of the i3 EV, BMW engineers decided to use this high tech material to fabricate the entire passenger compartment.

This video shows the process of how BMW's carbon fiber components are made and the journey from individual threads to ridged high-tensile car parts.

Pretty incredible stuff right? Well it is only a matter of time before you can explore one of these futuristic hatchbacks for yourself.
