CONS OF INDEPENDENT SHOP
.❌ Independent shops are unauthorized by BMW of North America to work on your BMW
❌. Independent mechanics are only ASE certified, if certified at all.
.❌ Unauthorized mechanics are not allowed to attend factory training. All cars are equal to them.
.❌ Unfortunately, their assistance usually contains a library of manuals, like "Auto Repair 101."
.❌ General basic diagnostic equipment is used on most cars with an instruction manual, NOT specific to BMW.
.❌ They give you a phone to call the rental car company or to phone a friend to pick you up.
.❌ They might have a lower labor rate but it takes much longer with untrained mechanics and basic equipment to fix the problem. Is it getting fixed properly with BMW warranted parts?
.❌ Independent garages can't return electrical parts to the parts department, so they are stuck with it. Did your BMW use ALL the electrical parts you were charged for?
.❌ If not purchased at a dealer, where did they come from? Are they under warranty? If so, where is the warranty honored, only at their shop?
.❌ Mechanics are awesome, but they can't greet customers unless they're willing to use up some labor time.
