We can't say all BMW drivers are the same. We can, however, say they have at least three things in common: they crave power, they enjoy standing out from the crowd, and they appreciate fine design and quality craftsmanship. As such, Bert Smith BMW thought you'd fancy a story having to do not only with BMW but also fine art.

In an effort to raise funds and create room for other exhibits, New York's world-famous Guggenheim Museum has decided to auction a BMW M1 art car painted by renowned artist Frank Stella in 1979. While BMW actually commissioned many art cars (including one by Pop Art icon Andy Warhol) for their own private collection, the Bavarian canvas on wheels we're speaking of is the only one officially sanctioned for a private client.

As you can see, this gives BMW enthusiast everywhere the opportunity of a lifetime: to acquire a one-of-a-kind, original BMW art car. And don't worry, having been part of the Guggenheim's collection since the late nineties, it's still in mint condition.

If you're interested in bidding on the '79 BMW M1 art car, the auction will be hosted by Bonhams in August at the Quail Lodge in Carmel California. Be forewarned, though, it's expected to go for a very pretty penny - half-a-million dollars, at least.
