What does BMW have in store next for the BMW M5? Now, why would Bert Smith BMW go and ruin the surprise like that? Oh, right because we're dedicated to keeping you informed, that's why. BMW recently showed off a prototype for the at next-gen M5 at the Laguna Seca Raceway, just outside Monterey, California, and we've got the inside scoop just for you!
At the forefront of the new M5's upgrades is, of course, performance. But, that is not all BMW has packed into the redesigned offering from their M brand. As Brian Watts, BMW M Brand's Global Marketing Director, puts it, "Two years ago, we would've focused on straight line acceleration. Now we no longer limit it to one single factor."1
BMW M5 Prototype at a glance:
- Engine: 4.4-liter V8- Power: 560-hp
- Torque: 500 lb.-ft.
- Valvetronic technology for better fuel economy
- Active Differential for shifting torque between right and left rear wheels resulting in better traction
Overall, these updates calculate into an increase of 10 percent and 20 percent for horsepower and Torque respectively. Furthermore fuel economy is expected to be increased by as much as 30 percent. Unfortunrely, BMW didn't confirm what model-year this prototype falls under, so while we could be seeing it as soon as a 2013 model, it could also be years off from production.
Either way, Bert Smith BMW asks that you stay tuned for more information as there is sure to be more to come.
