What's the best to battle the competition both home and broad? Simple - join forces with them. That's what BMW is going to do overseas with Peugeot, the French automobile and bicycle producer.

According to reports, "BMW and PSA Peugeot Citroen have signed an agreement to jointly develop hybrid powertrains for front-wheel drive vehicles."

Details are limited at this juncture, but BMW says this business partnership will "standardize key elements for the electrification of vehicles" as well as "leverage significant economies of scale for both partners."

Neither company commented on when the first vehicles would arrive, but BMW has already confirmed plans to offer a front-wheel drive model in the near future. Considering the 0-Series will likely to be built on a MINI platform, it wouldn't be surprising if we saw front-wheel drive versions of that vehicle - especially for North American audiences.

BMW has already spent years perfecting their "Blueefficiency" line of hybrid vehicles, though most of them are considered concepts or test vehicles for what will be released one day.
