BMW has been working on their Vision EfficientDynamics (VED for short, sounds like a new video game system) for several years. But all that planning, research and development is paying off, as the German auto maker continues to show off teases of that possibly already completed concept car.
The production version of BMW's Vision EfficientDynamics (VED) Concept is coming to reality as the company's very own teaser site, Dontblogaboutthis.com, has released a new video, which shows the vehicle in action.
Details on the BMW VED are still limited, though you can clearly see in the video this prototype has dropped the 6-Series body and now features a full VED shell, originally seen on the concept when images leaked in 2008. This is interesting as all the main styling attributes are carried over, expect the obvious replacement of glass doors.
No word yet on what will power the production model, but the concept version featured a plug-in hybrid powerplant, which combined a three-cylinder engine with not one, but two electric motors.
VED packs an insane 351 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. The concept accelerates from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.8 seconds, and hit an electronically limited 155 mph top speed. More importantly, fuel consumption was equal to 62.6 mpg, and CO2 emissions were only 99 g/km.
This could be one of the most powerful, horsepower friendly hybrid cars to ever be released onto the public.
According to World Car Fans: Expected to be launched in 2013, with a limited production of up to 10,000 units, the model could be called i100 Coupe ActiveHybrid.
